Female Car Insurance
Female car insurance is becoming fairly big business with women only car insurance companies springing up. Insurance companies claim that women are safer drivers, not because of the number of claims they make, which contrary to popular belief are around the same as those made by men, but because the claims that female drivers make tend to be for less serious accidents.
From an insurers perspective this makes it worthwhile offering specialist female car insurance at lower premiums, as the cost of any claim is likely to be less; men on the whole drive faster and more recklessly than women, and therefore when they do have an accident it’s usually far more serious.
Women have lower fatality rates than men travelling over the same distance, as they tend to driver slower, favouring smaller cars, and women spend less time on motorways and more time on urban roads.
This low risk market has attracted companies who offer female car insurance only, such as Diva and Diamond, however this doesn’t mean that they offer the lowest premiums and female drivers should still shop around.
A spokesman for AA said of the difference between male and female driving styles; "When you look at the stats men have more over-taking accidents which derive from thrill seeking, competitive behaviour than women. Men want to do expressive things with their cars. Whereas women see their car as something to get them from A to B, rather than something to show off in," he says.
