You've done the hard bit and passed your test but as a new driver how are you going to find cheap car insurance?

Cheap car insurance for new drivers doesn’t exist as such, premiums will be elevated no matter which vehicle you choose, or how competent and safe a driver you are, simply because the risk associated with new drivers are far greater than for more experienced motorists. Statistics show that new drivers are up 2 seconds slower to recognise a potential danger, and one in five will have an accident within their first year of driving; although new drivers make up 10% of motorists, they are involved in 29% of motoring accidents.

If you’ve just passed your test, whilst you won’t be able to achieve cheap car insurance being a new driver, you can reduce your premiums by considering a ‘pass plus’, ‘advanced driver’, or similar scheme, and decrease you premiums this way.

Many insurers are willing to offer a discount if you have passed an advanced driving course following your initial pass, and this is often the equivalent to one years no claims bonus.

An advanced driving course will prepare you for driving in busy rush hour traffic, in all weather conditions, at night, and on dual carriageways and motorways, and once you have been issued with your pass certificate by the DSA you will be able to approach insurers for cheaper car insurance even though you are a new driver.
